Dr. Akbar Ali

Academic Biography

Dr. Akbar Ali is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, India, where he has been actively engaged in teaching, research, and academic mentoring since 2021. He obtained his Ph.D. in Polymer (Macromolecular) Chemistry from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, in 2020, after completing his M.Sc. in Chemistry from the same university and his B.Sc. from the University of Kashmir. He qualified the CSIR-UGC NET (JRF) twice and GATE, and was awarded both Junior and Senior Research Fellowships by the University Grants Commission (UGC), India. Dr. Ali teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in chemistry and actively supervises research projects in polymer chemistry, biomaterials, and sustainable materials science. He has successfully guided numerous M.Sc. dissertations and is committed to promoting research-oriented learning among students. His research focuses on polymer and macromolecular chemistry, click chemistry, biodegradable polymers, hydrogels, bionanocomposites, nanotechnology, and sustainable packaging materials. His current research is directed toward the development of bio-based biodegradable films, functional biopolymer composites, and advanced biomaterials for food packaging, drug delivery, environmental remediation, and biomedical applications. He has published more than 20 research articles in internationally reputed journals, including Carbohydrate Polymers, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Heliyon, and Journal of Polymers and the Environment. His publications have received over 3,000 citations, with a Google Scholar h-index of 15 and an i10-index of 25. Dr. Ali has also made significant scholarly contributions through book publishing. He has edited three internationally published books with Elsevier and CRC Press and has authored more than 20 book chapters for leading publishers, including Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Woodhead Publishing, and Pan Stanford Publishing. He serves as an Associate Editor of Food Biomacromolecule (Wiley) and is a member of several editorial boards. He is also a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) and a Lifetime Member of the Asian Polymer Association. In recognition of his excellence in teaching and academic contributions, Dr. Ali received the Best Teacher Award 2024 from the University of Ladakh. His work continues to bridge fundamental polymer science with sustainable technologies, contributing to the advancement of environmentally friendly materials for diverse industrial and biomedical applications.
