Dr. Fakur Alam Shah Khan is a forestry scientist and academician serving in the agricultural research and extension system of Ladakh. He holds a Ph.D. in Forestry from the Faculty of Forestry, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), where his doctoral research focused on livelihood dependency on forestry resources in the cold-arid region of Leh, Ladakh. Dr. Khan has made significant contributions to forestry, agroforestry, natural resource management, and sustainable rural development in the Himalayan region. He served as Senior Scientist-cum-Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil-II, Zanskar, where he played a key role in promoting scientific agriculture, horticulture, environmental conservation, and capacity building among farmers of the remote Zanskar Valley. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in organizing farmer trainings, vocational programmes, awareness campaigns, and technology dissemination activities aimed at improving agricultural productivity and livelihood security in the cold-arid ecosystem of Ladakh. His work has particularly emphasized nursery raising, agroforestry, climate-resilient farming, and sustainable management of natural resources. Currently, Dr. Fakur Alam Shah Khan is serving as Subject Matter Specialist (Forestry) at KVK Zanskar, where he continues to guide farmers, students, and extension personnel through research, training, and outreach programmes for the sustainable development of the region's forestry and agricultural sectors.
