Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan

Academic Biography

Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan is the Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ladakh, where he provides academic and administrative leadership in advancing excellence in teaching, research, curriculum development, and institutional growth. With extensive experience in higher education, Dr. Khan has served in various academic and administrative capacities, contributing significantly to the development of quality education and research in the Himalayan region. His academic interests span Sociology, Tribal Studies, Himalayan Studies, Rural and Community Development, Indigenous Knowledge Systems, Social Policy, and Higher Education. His teaching and research focus on understanding the socio-cultural dynamics of tribal communities, preservation of indigenous heritage, sustainable development, social transformation, and public policy, particularly in the context of the Trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh. Dr. Khan has actively contributed to curriculum design and revision, implementation of academic reforms, quality assurance initiatives, and the promotion of interdisciplinary teaching and research. He has been closely associated with the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and has played an important role in strengthening academic governance, faculty development, examination reforms, and student-centric learning within the University. An active researcher and academic administrator, Dr. Khan has participated in numerous national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, and faculty development programmes. His scholarly contributions include research publications, invited lectures, and collaborative academic initiatives focusing on tribal development, social inclusion, cultural heritage, and sustainable development. He has also been involved in promoting research collaborations and community engagement initiatives that bridge academic knowledge with societal needs. In addition to his responsibilities as Dean, Dr. Khan has been associated with initiatives aimed at documenting and preserving the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of Ladakh. He strongly advocates the integration of indigenous knowledge with contemporary academic discourse and encourages research that addresses regional priorities while contributing to national and global scholarship. Dr. Khan envisions the Faculty of Arts as a vibrant centre of learning that nurtures critical thinking, innovation, ethical leadership, and social responsibility.
