Dr. Jigmat Norboo is a Assistant Professor (Contractual) in the Department of Geography at the University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, where he has been serving since 2021. He is an enthusiastic academic and researcher with expertise in human and agricultural geography, sustainable development, environmental management, and the socio-economic dynamics of the Himalayan region. Dr. Norboo obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Geography from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He went on to complete his M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Geography from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He has also qualified the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) and was awarded the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Geography, demonstrating his academic excellence and research potential. His teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and postgraduate courses in geography, where he emphasizes conceptual understanding, field-based learning, and the application of geographical knowledge to contemporary environmental and developmental issues. He is committed to creating an engaging learning environment that encourages critical thinking, research aptitude, and interdisciplinary perspectives among students. Dr. Norboo's research primarily focuses on agricultural geography, rural livelihoods, crop diversification, climate change adaptation, sustainable development, environmental sustainability, and regional planning, with particular emphasis on the fragile ecosystems of Ladakh and the Indian Himalayas. He has published several research papers in reputed national and international peer-reviewed journals on topics related to sustainable agriculture, changing cropping patterns, environmental conservation, and rural development, contributing significantly to the understanding of mountain geography and sustainable resource management. In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Norboo has actively participated in various faculty development and professional training programmes, including programmes on Emerging Trends and Challenges in Higher Education, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Tools and Planning, the NEP 2020 Orientation and Sensitization Programme under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MM-TTP), and the Faculty Induction Programme conducted by the University of Hyderabad, where he was awarded an A Grade. Through his academic pursuits, research contributions, and commitment to quality education, Dr. Norboo continues to promote excellence in geographical scholarship and strives to advance sustainable development and environmental resilience in the Himalayan region.
