Academic Biography

I am, Dr. Mohd Ali is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology, University of Ladakh, since 2023. I have been actively involved in teaching, research, academic administration, and student mentorship, contributing significantly to the growth and development of anthropological studies in the region. I completed my Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 2011, followed by an M.Sc. (Honours) in Anthropology from the same institution in 2013. I, qualified the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) in 2014, I was awarded with Basic Scientific Research (BSR) Fellowship under the Centre for Advanced Studies Programme of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2015. I completed my Ph.D. in Anthropology on topic entitled “Cephalometric and morphological features of Brokpa and Purigpa Tribes of Kargil Ladakh: A Bio-anthropological approach” in 2019. My areas of research interests encompass Anthropometry, Kinanthropometry, Forensic Anthropology, Palaeoanthropology, Human Growth and Nutrition, and Molecular Anthropology. My work seeks to integrate biological, evolutionary, and forensic-anthropological perspectives to understand human variation, evolution, health and diseases adaptation, growth and development. I have made notable contributions to anthropological research publications and scientific presentations and published six research articles in reputed national and international peer-reviewed journals. I have actively participated in the academic community by attending and presenting research papers at over fifteen national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops. Since 2025, I am serving as the Coordinator of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Ladakh. I have successfully supervised and guided 5 postgraduate students in their M.Sc. dissertation research across diverse areas, including Physical and Biological Anthropology, Forensic Anthropology, Human Growth, Nutrition, and related interdisciplinary domains.
