Assistant ProfessorAcademic Biography
Dr. Mohd Baqir is an environmental researcher currently serving as an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Environmental Science Department at the University of Ladakh. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, where his work focused on carbon sequestration and fuelwood assessment in rural plantation forests of Uttar Pradesh. A recipient of the National Fellowship for Higher Education and a UGC-NET qualifier, he has completed his M.Sc. in Environmental Science from BBAU, Lucknow and B.Sc. from the University of Jammu. His research interests include climate change, bioenergy assessment, and forest-based carbon mitigation strategies. He has published research articles in reputed international journals such as those under Springer and Taylor & Francis and has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences. With expertise in soil organic carbon and related studies in the cold desert region of Ladakh, he has supervised around 16 M.Sc. dissertation projects. He continues to contribute actively to research, teaching, and academic leadership. At the University of Ladakh, in addition to his academic responsibilities, he has held several administrative roles, including Department Coordinator, appoint BoS members and the BoS Secretary for the Department of Environmental Science University of Ladakh, Postgraduate Examination Superintendent, member of the Admission Cell Committee, and founding member of the Department of Environmental Science at the Kargil Campus. Dr Mohd Baqir has seven years of teaching experience in Ladakh university.
