Academic Biography

Dr. Shashi Kant Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany at the University of Ladakh, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Plant Biology from National Taiwan University, Taiwan, and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Academia Sinica, Taipei, one of Asia's leading research institutions. His academic and research career spans over seven years of combined experience in teaching, research, and student mentoring. Dr. Singh's research focuses on Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Plant Biology, Functional Genomics, Plant–Microbe Interactions, and Plant Stress Biology. His work has significantly advanced the understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying plant adaptation to environmental stresses, particularly drought, oxidative stress, and signaling pathways regulating plant growth and development. More recently, his research has expanded to beneficial root microbiota, with an emphasis on isolating and characterizing plant growth-promoting bacteria for sustainable agriculture and biofertilizer development. He is also actively engaged in the micropropagation and in vitro conservation of medicinal and high-altitude plant species native to the Himalayan region. His research has been published in leading international journals, including Science Advances, Journal of Experimental Botany, and Scientific Reports, and he has contributed chapters to international books on plant biotechnology and stress biology. His work has received over 780 citations with an h-index of 10, reflecting its impact within the plant science research community. As an educator, Dr. Singh teaches postgraduate courses in Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Research Methodology, Cytogenetics, Plant Physiology, and related subjects. He is committed to integrating current scientific advances with classroom teaching while fostering analytical thinking, research skills, and scientific ethics among students. He has supervised postgraduate research projects and actively contributes to curriculum development, academic committees, and research planning within the university. Dr. Singh's current research aims to integrate molecular biology, microbial biotechnology, and plant tissue culture to develop sustainable strategies for crop improvement, conservation of medicinal plant diversity, and enhancement of plant resilience under changing environmental conditions. His long-term goal is to bridge fundamental plant science with practical applications that support sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and environmental resilience.
