Dr. Sonam Joldan

Dr. Sonam Joldan is currently serving as an Associate Professor at the Centre for Himalayan and Trans-Himalayan Studies, University of Ladakh. Prior to this, he was affiliated with the Rinchen Shah Centre for West Himalayan Cultures at the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, Kashmir. Born in Leh, Ladakh, Dr. Joldan received his early education in his native village, Skurbuchan, and later attended Lamdon Model School in Leh. He completed his Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Delhi and earned his Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, in 2006. Dr. Joldan’s academic work focuses primarily on the Western Himalayas. He has authored several books and published numerous articles on the region.
Research focus
Himalaya and Trans-Himalaya; socio-economic, culture, politics, education and border trade.
