Dr. Tsering Tashi

Academic Biography

Dr. Tsering Tashi is an Assistant Professor (Contractual) in the Department of Economics at the University of Ladakh. He brings three years of teaching experience at colleges and the university in Ladakh, combined with a strong background in economic research. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Jammu, an M.A. from Banaras Hindu University, and a B.A. from the University of Jammu. He has qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF-UGC), the National Eligibility Test (NET-UGC), and the State Eligibility Test (JK-SET) in Economics. His research expertise includes econometric modeling, non-market valuation, climate vulnerability assessment, and livelihood analysis. He has published several papers in Scopus-indexed journals and articles in newspapers. His work focuses on critical local issues, such as climate-induced glacial melt and socioeconomic vulnerability in the Trans-Himalayan region, the economic valuation of nature-based tourism in Ladakh, and the economic potential of sea buckthorn in the cold desert of Nubra Valley. Dr. Tashi served as the Coordinator for a major international research project funded by the Association of Asian Social Science Research Council (AASSREC-IDRC), Canada. The project's working paper, β€œEmpirical Analysis of Climate Change Impacts on Mountain Communities and Women in South Asia and Central Asia: Evidence and Policy Implications,” was published by the Institute for Human Development (IHD). He has also completed the UGC-Malaviya Mission Faculty Induction Programme and several workshops on quantitative research methodology. He is deeply committed to advancing economic knowledge and policy-making that directly benefits the unique communities of Ladakh.
