Arabic
is the most widely spoken Semitic language in the world. It is the first
official language of 23 states of West Asia and North Africa. It is fifth most
spoken language in the world. It is also one of the six official languages of
the United Nations. The celebration of Word Arabic Day on 18th of
December by United Nations is manifestation of the world-wide recognition of
this language.
The
Department of Arabic with under graduate programme was established in 2016 and
post graduate programme in 2020 at Kargil Campus to impart knowledge of Arabic
language and literature to the students at UG and PG level, with objective to
inculcate in them a comprehensive understanding of the subject. In light of
this, courses like classical and modern Arabic literature, literary criticism,
history of Arabic literature, Translation has been designed, whereas the post
graduate courses prepare the students for academic and research pursuits.
In
addition to the above programme, The Department is planning to start research
programmes such as M.Phil. and Ph.D. as soon as possible.
The
missions of Arabic Department is to impart quality education to the students
and train them in language skills and motivates them for learning and research
and makes them able to compete in jobs markets not only in academic institutions
but also in other socio-cultural and economic organizations within the country
and aboard.
The
Department of Arabic focuses efficient training of students to enable them to
reach the height of their aspirations in academic and professional fields.
The
Department aims to unveil the scientific and literary heritage of the Indo-Arab
literature through standard research. This will further boost cultural and
economic relations with the Arab world.
