The Department of Computer Science & IT was established in 2017 by
the University of Kashmir in 2020, after the bifurcation of erstwhile J&K
state the University of Ladakh took over the Department. The University has established three Labs for
the Department of Computer Science & IT. All labs are equipped with good
configuration machines, connected with high-speed campus network for the
internet. In order to facilitate the
researchers and students, the University has established a Lab (DSAIL) exclusively
dedicated to Data Science & AI Research. This lab is equipped with high-end
computing workstations powered by NVIDIA GeForce GPU.
Academic Program, Masters in Computer
Applications (MCA):
Currently, the Department of Computer Science & IT, is offering a
two-year Master Program in Computer Applications i.e. Masters in Computer
Applications (MCA).
Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) is full time, 4 semesters,
resident programme. MCA degree is awarded to students who attend and pass 15
theory and 6 laboratory courses and undertake major project work in public or
private sector institutions to acquire real-life practical training which helps
them in finding proper placement. The course offers choice to students for selection
of Elective courses in 3 Semesters. The Programme’s thrust is on giving the
students a thorough and sound background in theoretical and skill-oriented
courses relevant to the latest computer software development. The programme
emphasizes on the application of software technology to solve mathematical,
computing, communications/networking and commercial problems.
The Course is designed to prepare the next generation of graduates who
will join industry, government, academia, research,
entrepreneurial pursuit and consulting firms as successful IT professionals.
The learners of this course shall achieve peer recognition; as an individual or
in a team; through the demonstration of good analytical, design and
implementation skills.
The course curriculum not
only aims to enhance the technical horizon of the learner, also intends to
produce trained graduates who will contribute to the society as broadly
educated, expressive, ethical and responsible citizens with proven expertise. These
trained students will thrive to pursue life-long learning to fulfil their goals.
The Basic eligibility for
MCA program is as:
"Passed BCA/
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent Degree. Or Passed
B.Sc./B.Com./B.A. with Mathematics at 10+2 Level or at Graduation Level (with
additional bridge Courses as per the norms of the concerned University).
Obtained at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to
reserved category) in the qualifying Examination”
Research
program, Ph.D. computer Science & IT:
At present, the
Department is offering Ph.D. in Computer Science & IT. The Department has
expertise in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Medical
Image Analysis, Artificial Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Pattern Recognition.
The doctorate program in Computer science and IT intends to train researchers
to be the subject experts of tomorrow by providing in-depth ideas and
understanding regarding the research domain through independent and
collaborative research ventures. The research program aspires to train young
researchers to become innovative researchers/teachers while having a great
sense of professional and ethical responsibilities. The Ph.D. program
encourages researchers to produce publications in national and international
journals/conferences, seminars, patents etc.
The Basic Eligibility for
Ph.D. Computer Science & IT is as:
