PRESS NOTE On September 13, 2023 The Tribal Research Institute (TRI) at the Kargil Campus of the University of Ladakh has organized a learning exposure visit for students from the Departments of Sociology and Anthropology. This event entailed an enriching visit to the Munshi Aziz Bhat Museum of Central Asian & Kargil Trade Artifacts, followed by a captivating Heritage Walk through the historic Old Town of Kargil. This immersive visit organized by the Tribal Research Institute, Kargil Campus, UoL, took participants on a voyage through time, unearthing a rare glimpse into the Indian and Central Asian trader culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. Mr. Muzammil the curator of the museum regaled students with captivating anecdotes, providing vivid insights into the rare collections of costumes, documents, art and crafts, artifacts and the vibrant era of the Silk Route trade culture. Venturing beyond the museum’s walls, the heritage walk led the participants through the intricate lanes of Old Town, where time seemed to stand still. Quaint houses adorned with traditional architecture whispered tales of generations gone by. As the day drew to a close, students departed with hearts filled with new found knowledge and a profound appreciation for Kargil’s rich cultural heritage. The Museum cum Heritage Walk left an indelible mark, inspiring a collective commitment to preserving and celebrating the legacy of this remarkable region. The program saw enthusiastic participation from 42 students along with esteemed faculty members from the Department of Sociology and the Department of Anthropology. Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan Coordinator, Tribal Research Institute, UoL extended gratitude to Madam, Kaneez Fatima, Rector, Kargil Campus for graciously granting us the permission to explore the Museum and Old Town of Kargil. Concluding the visit, Dr. Jaffar also expressed gratitude to Mr. Muzammil, the Museum Curator, for briefing the students and the faculty members about the extensive collection of artifacts housed at the Munshi Aziz Bhat Museum of Central Asian & Kargil Trade Artifacts.
