NSS REPORT National Service Scheme (NSS) has boost up the youth of the country to serve for the nation in every possible way. NSS believe in the self-development of the students and youth of the nation by organizing different camps at various places in extreme difficult conditions where students can learn to survive in difficult conditions. Under the aegis of Rector Madam Kaneez Fatima, Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh. One day trekking/survival camp to Marpo Dok (Brok) for NSS volunteers was organized by NSS unit, Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh. The total number of volunteers participated were around Thirty (30) and also total of five faculty from various departments of university such as Anthropology, Disaster Management, Geography and Arabic were also accompanied the NSS volunteers. The adventure trip could have not possible without their supports. The trekking was conducted under the leadership of Coordinator Dr. Mehboob Ali and Co-Coordinator Ms. Sonam Angmo. The NSS volunteers have started trekking from Kargil Campus at 11 AM and reached the Brok at around 1 PM and it was around 5 km trek. During trekking, NSS volunteers were thrilled to learn so much about mountains also enchanted by the beauty of the serene place and fully enjoyed to and fro trek amidst the Lichen on the boulders which act as environmental indicators, weathered rocks and other unique flora on the way and along a spring water of gushing transparent water. LICHEN After reaching the Brok (Marpo Dok), we were set up of basic necessity items at the camp like collection of firewood for prepared a light lunch there and some volunteers and faculties have carried their packed lunch also. There volunteers have their lunch and coffee there and take rest on the pasture land. In afternoon after the lunch break all the volunteers cleaned the nearby camp areas to preserve the beauty of nature and keep the place neat and clean. It was a really new and adventurous experience for all the volunteers a very important activity. It was an indeed a beautiful place surrounded with the beauty of nature. In the afternoon around 4 PM, we returned back to campus. On this adventurous trek, there are a variety of flora making every sight delightful. Huge peaks and hillocks on the way promise to keep the journey magnificent. The surroundings are a visual treat, particularly for nature lovers and wonderful adventurous experiences.
