PRESS REPORT Workshop on Human Rights Under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Department of the Political Science-Kargil Campus University of Ladakh had organised workshop on Human Rights. ‘Consolidating and Sustaining Human Rights Culture into the Future’ was the theme of the workshop. The event owed its success to the unwavering support and guidance of the venerable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S. K. Mehta, University of Ladakh and worthy Rector Madam Kaneez Fatima, Kargil Campus University of Ladakh. Their patronage ensured the seamless execution of the program, setting the stage for an insightful gathering. A distinguished faculty members and students were participate in the workshop and engaged in an informative session followed by Q&A Dr. Nargis Khatoon argues that the status of women's rights is indeed a crucial indicator of global well-being. When women are empowered and enjoy equal rights, societies tend to experience numerous positive outcomes. Access to education creates a more equitable and inclusive society. Access to reproductive healthcare, family planning, and maternal health services contributes to healthier communities and reduces maternal and child mortality rates. Educated women also break the cycle of stereotypes. Dr. Pirzada Athar Hussain highlights the significance of the relationship between human rights and social harmony. The protection of human rights contributes to social harmony, and the two concepts are interconnected, and advancements in one area can positively influence the other. Human rights are closely linked to the principles of social justice. When societies address economic and social inequalities, it helps to create a more just and equitable environment, contributing to social harmony. According to Dr. Nissar Ahmed Dar, the objectives of human rights are to create a world where the principles of justice and fairness are upheld for all individuals regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. The concept of human rights is based on the idea that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, equality, and respect. Ms. Sonam Angmo, in her presentation, highlights that the principles of human rights and objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals are convergence in nature, and both are two sides of the same coin. Moreover, she argued that seventeen SDG revolve around human rights. Therefore, she believed that the integration of SDG with Human Rights was a powerful approach to advancing both social and environmental objectives. The event was seamlessly organized by Dr. Gulam Murtaza and commenced with a warm welcome speech by Dr. Muzammil Ahad Dar. The vote of thank was gracefully delivered by Dr. Mehdi Ali.
