KARGIL CAMPUS, UNIVERSITY OF LADAKH KHUMBUTHANG, SALISKOTE, KARGIL-LADAKH (194105) PRESS RELEASE The International Women's Day event, centered around the theme "Invest in Women-Accelerate Progress," began with Ms. Kanika delivering a welcome speech focusing on women's rights. The subsequent segment featured a Khatak ceremony by Dr. Jaffer dedicated to the Rector Mam. Following this, Student Ms. Gulzana discussed women's achievements in India, addressing topics such as empowerment, gender status, and contributions by notable figures like Savitri Phules and Kalpana Chawla in the field of teaching and space science. The presentation also highlighted the significant role of the Iron Lady Rector Mam, who was the first graduate from Kargil. Ms. Zeenat Khatoon from the Geography Department shared insights on women empowerment, covering aspects like women rights, child marriage, and crimes. She emphasized the importance of laws that secure property rights for women, enabling them to fight for and respect themselves. Ms. Sakina Khatoon, representing anthropology, explored women's accomplishments from a societal and anthropological perspective. Topics included gender equality, sexuality, assault, women's roles in the economy and culture, and the anthropological significance of marriage for the potential of women. Mr. Imran Majid from the Political Science Department focused on redefining politics through feminism. His talks covered various feminist ideologies, including radical feminism, labera feminism, and Marxist feminism. The discussion also highlighted government support for females and the significant contributions made by women in educational institutions. Ms. Fiza Bano, from the Chemistry Department, presented on the role of women using local language. She concluded the initial session with a poignant quote, "Let them today; they will bloom a universe tomorrow," emphasizing Women's Day and women's all-round development, recognizing their roles as daughters, sisters, wives, and mothers. The event featured a vibrant Ladakhi Dance presentation by students and women’s faculty, celebrating cultural diversity. Additionally, a documentary on Juice, presented by women faculty, addressed the challenges women face with household chores and the upbringing of children. The struggles and resilience of females were portrayed, shedding light on important societal issues. The event concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Murtaza, providing a platform for diverse perspectives on women's issues and empowerment. Overall, the International Women's Day event successfully engaged participants in meaningful discussions and presentations, contributing to the ongoing efforts to empower and recognize women's achievements. The event's culmination included a panel discussion expertly conducted by Dr. Murtaza from the Political Science Department, fostering dialogue among students. The discussion was started by Dr. Kacho Amir Khan, the panel discussion featured insightful contributions from participants across various departments. Mr. Shoaib Mohd from the English Department, Fayaz Hussain from Botany, Razia Banoo from the Geography Department, and Zahra Bano from Sociology shared their perspectives, enriching the discourse on women's issues and empowerment. The diverse range of participants provided a holistic view, reflecting the multidimensional impact of women's roles and challenges in different academic domains. The panel discussion further underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting gender equality and women's progress. The event, led by Rector Ma’am, UOL, focused on women's representation in society, emphasizing their contributions and achievements. Her insightful talk delved into women's literacy and empowerment, stressing that Women's Day should extend beyond a single day. Rector Ma’am proposed forming a committee among faculties to empower female students on campus by March 8, 2025. She commended the management committee and faculty for organizing this successful event. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Yasmeen Fatima from the Department of English, expressing gratitude to all involved in making the event impactful.
