PRESS NOTE Dated: 22/04/2024 The University of Ladakh in collaboration with Fire and Fury Corps, started with the one-week certificate course for the army officers on “Understanding Ladakh Through its History, Geography and Culture” at Leh Campus, University of Ladakh, on 22/04/2024. The inaugural session of the course was graced by Brigadier S. Vinod, Senal Medal, Vashisht Sewa Medal, Brigadier INT and Prof S.K. Mehta, Honorable Vice-Chancellor University of Ladakh, Brigadier S. Vinod in his keynote address briefed about the relevance of the source for the army. Prof. S.K Mehta briefly introduces the various aspects of Ladakh that will be covered in this course. The other guests present on the occasion include Col. Atul Bharadwaj, Colonel G.S. IW, Dr. Sonam Joldan, Dean, Academic Affairs, UoL, Dr. Subrat Sharma, Dean, Research, Dr. Phuntsong Angmo, Dean, Colleges, army officers, faculty members and students. The course is a one-week-long certificate course delving into various aspects of Ladakh: history, culture, environment, language and so on. The entire course is categorized according to the three themes consisting of relevant information in the domain of these three themes. The main objective behind designing this course is to give necessary information and knowledge of the region to the stakeholders serving in Ladakh, which would in turn help in forming a better bond and ties with the local people and their traditions. This understanding will also help in facilitating the execution of various developmental policies, which will lead to strengthening the symbiotic ties, particularly between the army and natives. Twenty army officers are participating in the course and resource persons are from various institutions both within and outside Ladakh. The course will end on 27/04/2024 and is conducted by the Centre for Himalayan and Trans-Himalayan Studies and the Department of History, University of Ladakh. Sd. Media Committee
