UNIVERSITY OF LADAKH Press Release 18th April 2024: The University of Ladakh in collaboration with Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council-(HSSC) today started a two-day Workshop on “Energy Transition and Green Hydrogen”. On the occasion various dignitaries and guest speakers were present. Mr. Amit Sharma IAS, Secretary, UT Ladakh was the chief guest while Prof. S.K. Mehta, VC UOL, Mr. S. K. Bose-CEO, HSSC, Dr. G. S. Kapoor- advisor, GAIL were the guests of honour. The two-day workshop started with the lightening of lamp (Deep Prajavalan) by the guests. Later, Vice-Chancellore, Prof. S.K. Mehta felicitated the Chief Guest and other guests with a traditional khatags and mementos. Prof S. K. Mehta while welcoming all the guests, industry participants, students and faculty members stressed that it is a very important day for UoL and Ladakh and described green hydrogen as the “fuel of the future”. During the inaugural session, Dr Suhas Deshmukh, director-NCVET addressed the gathering and gave an idea of skill courses that are yet to be introduced in various fields. While explaining the role of NEP-2020 in introducing skill courses, he explained the role of green hydrogen in agriculture, climate change and food security of the country. Dr. Deshmukh also focused on adopting the sustainable goals in generating the green hydrogen in his concluding remarks. Subsequetly, Mr. Amit Sharma, IAS, the chief guest of the occasion addressed the gathering and shared his perspective on making Ladakh a Carbon neutral state and how this workshop is turning as one step in the direction of achieving that goal. He also talked about the various developmental activities in Ladakh after it had become a Union territory. Mr. Amit Sharma also assured that the administration of UT Ladakh will support the University in every possible way. He also advised the participants and students of UoL to make the best use of this workshop and appreciated the youth of Ladakh for their immense strength and vision. On the occasion, renowned expert Dr. G. S. Kapur spoke at length on Energy Scenarios and Green Hydrogen for addressing Global Warming and achieving Net Zero Emission Targets. The distinguished speaker elaborated on the pivotal role of green hydrogen in combating global warming and achieving net zero emission targets. Later, Mr. Ajit Kumar, an expert in the refinery and fertilizer industry, and Mr. Ashish Gupta delivered their presentation virtually on the Hydrogen production cost and project economics. In the end, Dr. SS Gupta appraised the participants on the safety aspects of handling the hydrogen gas and cautioned them for preventive measures to prevent any mishappening.
