September 27, 2024: NSS Unit, University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus inaugurated the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness and hygiene, with a pledge-taking ceremony. The cleanliness drive was conducted as part of the nationwide Swachhta Hi Seva, 2024 (SHS-2024) and this year theme is focusing on Swabhav Swachtta, Sanskaar Swachhata. The event began with a welcome address and a brief introduction of “SWACHTTA HI SEVA” by Dr. Sonam Angmo, NSS Co-PO and the inaugural ceremony was address by Incharge Administrative Kargil Campus, Dr. Mehboob Ali. The ceremony was attended by Dean Arts, Coordinators of respective department, faculty members, NSS volunteers and students of the university. The event highlighted the collective efforts of cleaner societies and public spaces. The drive aimed to promote awareness about individual responsibility of waste management and the environmental impact of neglecting cleanliness. During the ceremony, participants took a collective pledge to contribute to the cleanliness drive and maintain a litter-free environment. This was followed by a cleanliness drive, where volunteers actively participated in cleaning various areas of the campus. Participant cleaned the areas in and around the Administrative block, Humanities block, Solar plant area and lawn of the campus. They collected different types of waste and segregation of waste will be conducted over the next day of the one week long campaign. Over around 100 participants from various departments joined the initiative, contributing to the goals of “Swachh Bharat Mission“ launched in 2014. Swachhta Hi Seva, a noble initiative celebrated annually on different themes under the Swachh Bharat Mission, 2014 encourages us to do our commitment to make cleaner, healthier and sustainable environment. Moreover, it also inspire us for collective effort to maintain a culture of cleanliness and community services.
