On 4th October a group of 23 students of V semester from Govt. Degree College, Kargil visited the Centralized Interdisciplinary Science Instrumentation Centre (CISIC) at the University of Ladakh. They were aquantained by faculty members from GDC Kargil, Dr. Zakir Hussain and Ms. Kunzang Dolma, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Dr. Aabid Hussain, Assistant Professor,Department of Physics. The team was welcomed by Dr. Mohd Hussain, Coordinator of CISIC Facility and DST-PURSE members. The visit was organized as a part of Govt. Degree College; Kargil educational tour programme aims to extend classroom learning by creating collaboration opportunities, gaining insights into the facility's layout, equipments, and ongoing projects for future reference. In CISIC Lab students learned about various instruments like X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) system, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS), Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), BET Surface Area Analyzer, Multichannel Electrochemical Workstation, and Stereo Microscope. Students were very determined to discuss about methodologies, challenges, and the implications of their research through using the CISIC Lab facility. They also got the chance to see the basic procedure to be followed while working and handling the instruments. Students also had experience of watching huge collection of hard rock samples at Geological Rock Museum. They also visited recently established Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub (AWaDH) CPS Lab where students were given practical insights into applications of various sensors and microcontroller in various research fields. “The students were taking keen interest and looking this visit as an opportunity to meet their research ideas for future studies they might pursue in Ladakh”, lauded Dr. Dr. Mohd Hussain, Coordinator of CISIC Facility appreciating their enthusiasm and curiosity. This visit is the commitment of University of Ladakh’s to encourage the innovative and playful minds of young students to do wonder when guided and encouraged to discover new ideas. CISIC lab facility offers various opportunities for students to think creatively, develop techniques, and explore their interests.
