Kargil, October 23, 2024: The Ladakh University Students Union (LUSU) Election 2024-25 at Kargil Campus concluded today with an impressive voter turnout of 82%, reflecting the high level of student participation and engagement in the democratic process. The elections were held at two designated polling stations: Polling Station 1 at the Humanities and Social Sciences Block (Sociology Lecture Hall II) and Polling Station 2 at the Science Block (Botany Lecture Hall II). The schedule of the election was strictly followed, with polling commencing at 10:30 AM and closing at 2:30 PM, followed by the counting of votes, which was completed by 4:00 PM. A total male voter turnout of 83% and a female voter turnout of 81% were recorded, demonstrating enthusiastic participation from all segments of the student community. Notably, departments such as Anthropology (100%), Computer Science & IT (94%), and Education & Physical Education (94%) witnessed particularly high voter turnout, while the English department (64%), along with Sociology and Botany (65% each), had comparatively lower participation.After the smooth conclusion of polling and vote counting, the election process transitioned into the Declaration of Results and Oath Taking Ceremony, held at the Kargil Campus. The esteemed dignitaries for the event included Dr. Mehboob Ali, Incharge Administration, Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, as Chief Guest, and Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan, Dean of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Ladakh, as Guest of Honor. Dr. Mohd Taqi, Chairperson of the Campus Election Committee and Chief Election Officer, also graced the occasion. The ceremony commenced with a traditional welcome, where Dr. Taqi extended greetings to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor with traditional khataks. Dr. Taqi then presented the formal welcome address, briefing the gathering on the election process, including the meticulous poll-day schedule and the breakdown of voter turnout across departments. He expressed gratitude to the election officials, faculty, students, and support staff for their unwavering dedication, ensuring that the election was conducted with transparency and integrity. Following this, Dr. Aejaz Ahmad Wani, Returning Officer, announced the election results. The newly elected office bearers of the LUSU Kargil Campus for 2024-25 are as follows: • President: Mr. Nissar Hussain (MSc Chemistry) • Vice President: Syed Kazim (MA Urdu) – Unopposed • General Secretary: Mustafa Kamal (MA Arabic) • Joint Secretary: Mohammad Khan (MCA) Media and Publicity cell Kargil campus university of Ladakh In addition, 13 councilors were elected to represent various departments. Notably, 12 councilors were elected unopposed, while Mohammad Jaffer (BCA) won the contested seat for the Computer Science & IT Department. After the declaration of results, Certificates of Election were distributed to the newly elected members by Dr. Mehboob Ali, Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan, and Dr. Mohd Taqi. The ceremony continued with the oath-taking, administered by Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan for the elected councilors and by Dr. Mehboob Ali for the office bearers. In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Mehboob Ali, congratulated the newly elected members and praised the high voter turnout, emphasizing the importance of democratic participation on campus. He urged the elected student representatives to work collaboratively with the university administration to promote academic growth and uphold the values of democracy. Dr. Mehboob assured the students of the administration's support and announced plans to meet with the elected members soon to address their concerns and suggestions. The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Nargis Khatoon, Assistant Professor, Sociology. Dr. Nargis expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, Prof. S. K. Mehta, for his leadership in overseeing the election process. She also thanked Dr. Mehboob Ali for his guidance, the election committee for their diligent efforts, the students for their active participation, and the support staff and media for their contributions to the successful completion of the election.
