First time Ground-Level Survey and Awareness Program on "Water Pollution and Water Conservation Awareness Mountain Research Institute (MRI) of University of Ladakh conducted a ground-level survey and awareness program on "Water pollution and Water Conservation Awareness" today in Taru Village, under the leadership of Dr. Jigmet Yangchan, Chief Scientist and Head of CISIC and MRI University of Ladakh. This event aimed to inform and engage the local farming community on sustainable water management practices essential for the region. Approximately 30 local farmers attended,Dr. Jigmet Yangchan and her team, including Dr. Stanzin Passang, Ms. Tsering Dolma, and Mr. Tariq Ahmed, conducted an interactive session with the farmers to discuss the importance of water conservation in Ladakh. They addressed the challenges of water scarcity in arid regions like Ladakh and shared insights on best practices for sustainable water management tailored to local needs. The team initiated a comprehensive survey to map the water resources of Taru Village. This survey marks the beginning of a detailed assessment aimed at understanding the water sources, consumption patterns, and existing infrastructure. The data gathered will serve as the foundation for future planning and intervention. Dr. Jigmet assured the farmers that after mapping, they would conduct an in-depth water quality analysis using advanced technology available at the University of Ladakh. The university’s CISIC(Centralised interdisciplinary science instrumentation centre) lab, equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, will support this initiative, ensuring scientific accuracy in assessing water and soil quality and availability in Taru Village. The interactive session facilitated open communication between the scientific team and the farmers. Farmers shared their experiences and concerns, while the scientists provided tailored recommendations for water conservation and management. This exchange strengthened the connection between academia and the local community, fostering trust and a shared vision for sustainable water resource conservation.
