Mountain Research Institute University of Ladakh in collaboration with DST PURSE Team completed Soil and Water Sampling in entire Taru Village, On 11 February 2025.The team collected over 60 samples, including water samples from various sources such as streams, springs, bore wells, hand pumps, and Jal Jeevan sources. Additionally, soil samples were gathered from diverse agricultural fields, including kitchen gardens, potato fields, pea crops, alfalfa areas, barley fields, fallow land, greenhouse fields, flood-affected areas, and apple-apricot orchards. In a significant step towards geological assessment, partial rock samples were also collected. In recognition of this crucial research effort, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, Prof.Saket Kushwaha, worthy Registrar, and other esteemed faculty members also visited the sampling site, commending the boost of moral of the farmers of Taru village. During the visit, Prof. Saket also met with the Nambardar of Taru village, Shri Namgyal and also appreciate MRI team for their dedication and also systematic approach. The team, led by Prof. (Dr.) Jigmet Yangchan, Tsering Dolma, and Tariq Ahmed, and appreciated their commitment to advancing environmental studies in Ladakh.
