On 11 November 2024, a group of sixty students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Leh, accompanied by their faculty members, visited the Centralized Interdisciplinary Science Instrumentation Centre (CISIC) Lab Facility at the University of Ladakh, Leh Campus. This visit was aimed at exposing the students to cutting-edge scientific research tools and technologies, fostering their understanding of modern research methodologies, and inspiring them to pursue careers in science and technology. During the visit, the students were introduced to a range of sophisticated instruments available at the CISIC lab, including Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Brunauer-EmmettTeller (BET) Surface Area Analyzer, Stereo Microscope, Polarizing Microscope, and Genome Sequencing equipment and the students had the opportunity to see how they are used in real-world applications. The primary objective of the visit was not only to familiarize the students with these advanced technologies but also to help them understand the significant role of scientific research in addressing both local and global challenges, particularly in the context of Ladakh’s unique geography and environment. The students also had the chance to interact with the researchers and faculty members at the lab, gaining valuable insights into scientific careers and research practices. Ms. Jigmet Padma, a 12th-grade medical student, shared her reflections on the experience, stating that the “opportunity to learn about such a wide array of scientific instruments in one place at the University of Ladakh had inspired her to pursue a medical career with the aim of helping her community at the grassroots level”. Throughout the visit, the students actively engaged with the faculty, asking questions about internships, scholarships, and future study opportunities in the fields of science and technology. This interaction provided them with a broader perspective on the various pathways available for further education and research. Mrs. Reena Thakur, PGT Chemistry at JNV, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Mehta, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, and Prof. (Dr.) Jigmet Yangchan, Chief Scientist, Head, CISIC & MRI,University of Ladakh for providing the students with this invaluable learning experience. She emphasized that such opportunities are crucial for shaping the future careers of young students and igniting their passion for science and research
