On 12 November 2024, a group of thirty-seven students of class 10th from Jamyang School Leh, accompanied by their two faculty members, visited the Centralized Interdisciplinary Science Instrumentation Centre (CISIC) Lab Facility at the University of Ladakh, Leh Campus aiming to explore the latest advancements in scientific research and technology. The primary objective of the visit was not only to familiarize the students with these advanced technologies but also to help them understand the significant role of scientific research in addressing both local and global challenges, particularly in the context of Ladakh’s unique geography and environment. Additionally, the students got the opportunity to engage with the lab's faculty members, learning important knowledge about various sophisticated instruments such as X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS), BET Surface Area Analyzer, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Stereo and Polarized Microscope etc. They have also visited rock museum and learned various collection rocks and minerals. Additionally, the students got the opportunity to have hands on demonstration on Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) regarding trace elements analysis of drinking water from various sources such as UoL Campus, Igoo, Choglamsar village etc. This exposure not only broadened their knowledge of scientific research but also helped ignite their passion for pursuing careers in the field. The students expressed gratitude for the chance to learn and to witness firsthand the importance of science in shaping the future. Ms. Stanzin and Ms. Singay, the faculty members of Jamyang School conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Mehta, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, and Prof. (Dr.) Jigmet Yangchan, Chief Scientist and Head of CISIC & MRI at the University of Ladakh, for offering the students this invaluable learning experience.
