The Department of International Conflict Studies at the University of Ladakh is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of global politics, conflict, strategic affairs, peace building and international relations. Located in the geopolitically significant Trans-Himalayan region, the Department offers students a unique intellectual environment to engage with contemporary global and regional challenges from the vantage point of Ladakh- a region where issues of borders, connectivity, security, environment and culture intersect in meaningful ways. The Department aims to nurture critical thinking, policy-oriented research, interdisciplinary learning and global perspectives, while preparing students for careers in academia, diplomacy, public policy, strategic analysis, international organisations, media and civil services. Inspired by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the UGC framework on university–industry linkages, we maintain a careful balance between conceptual depth, research engagement and professional exposure.

Here Strategic Trans-Himalayan Location- Study international relations at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia and the Indo-Pacific, with direct exposure to issues of borders, geopolitics, connectivity, environment and security.

Industry-Linked Learning- Internship support with think tanks, research institutions, media organisations, NGOs and government bodies enhances practical and professional exposure.

Foreign Language Opportunities- Learn a foreign language alongside core courses to strengthen your global outlook and career prospects.

    1. Strategic Trans-Himalayan Learning Environment

    The Department leverages Ladakh’s unique geopolitical location as a living classroom for understanding borders, regional security, connectivity, environmental diplomacy and international relations in the Himalayan and Indo-Pacific regions.

    2. Collaboration with the United Service Institution of India (USI)

    Academic engagement with United Service Institution of India provides students with exposure to strategic studies, defence perspectives, policy discussions, expert lectures and national security discourse.

    3. Interdisciplinary and Contemporary Curriculum

    The programme integrates international relations, geopolitics, strategic affairs, climate security, migration studies, diplomacy, emerging technologies and global governance through a multidisciplinary academic framework.

    Special emphasis is placed on Himalayan geopolitics, borderland communities, transnational connectivity, environmental sustainability and regional cooperation in South and Central Asia.
