On the occasion of Worlds Wildlife day, Department of Zoology, Leh Campus, University of Ladakh organized One day Seminar on “Importance of Wildlife and future prospective in wildlife research” in the conference hall of the campus . World Wildlife Day is celebrated on March 3 throughout the world. It is a International day to celebrate all the world's wild animals and plants and the contribution that they make to our lives and the health of the planet. World Wildlife Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. World Wildlife Day has now become the most important global annual event dedicated to wildlife. This day is all about raising awareness of wild flora and fauna across the world. Whether you love animals, you’re passionate about plants, or you’re concerned about climate change, it’s the day that you can use to educate yourself or others. Dr Ajaz Hussain, Project Scientist. Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, was the lead speaker and guest of honour at this occasion. The session was inaugurated at 11:00 pm by Prof S.K. Mehta, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of University of Ladakh who also felicitated the guest with traditional Khataq and a memento. In his key note address Hon’ble vice chancellor Prof SK Mehta Stressed the need of organizing such Seminar to raise awareness of wild flora and fauna across the world, and Ladakh in Particular, as Ladakh has a very fragile ecosystem and abrupt development can affect the ecosystem and Wildlife as well. Hon'ble VC sir also acknowledged the efforts of Department of Zoology for organizing such programmes. He also thanked Dr Ajaz for sparing time for the event and requested him to guide the students in their research projects.
