University organized International Earth Science Olympiad – IESO-2023.

International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) examination-2023 conducted at Leh Campus, Taruthang, University of Ladakh, on 10th June, 2023. Under the motivation and support of Prof. S. K. Mehta, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Leh campus, Taruthang has organized International Earth Science Olympiad – IESO-2023. International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) is one of the major activities of the International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO). It is an annual competition for secondary school students. The main aims of the IESO are to encourage student’s interest and public awareness of Earth Science and to enhance Earth Sciences teaching/learning at school level. The Geological Society of India (GSI) is the body responsible for selecting the Indian team for the International Earth Science Olympiad. The IESO is supported by the Ministry of Earth Science (MoES), Government of India as one of its outreach programmes for promotion of Earth Science. In this context 181 students out of total 196 registered students from various schools of the city have appeared in the entrance examination today on 10th June, 2023 at University of Ladakh, Leh Campus, Taruthang, Leh. After the entrance examination students visited the various Labs of the campus and Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Prof. S. K. Mehta addressed the students about the various courses and facilities available in the University. He invited the students to showcase their scientific innovative skill projects in coming events in the campus and motivated them to pursue their higher studies at University of Ladakh. The organiser of the IESO-2023 examination, thankfully acknowledged the co-operation of the administration and principals of the various participating schools and accompanying teaching members.
