CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI) signed an MoU with University of Ladakh (UOL) on June 17, 2023 for having S&T collaborations in the areas of geophysical mapping, earthquake hazard, geothermal energy and groundwater studies. Prof. S.K. Mehta, Vice Chancellor, UOL and Dr. Prakash Kumar, Director, CSIR-NGRI signed the MoU in the presence of Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS, Pro-Chancellor, UOL and Advisor to the Hon`ble Lieutenant Governor, UT, Ladakh. Prof. Ashok K Sharma, Registrar; Dr. Riyaz M K Khan, PRO; Dr. Sonam Joldan, Dean Research and Dr. Subrat Sharma from University of Ladakh and Dr. M.J.Nandan, Chief Scientist and Sh. DVS Sastry, Controller of Administration from CSIR-NGRI side participated in the signing ceremony. CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI) is a unique geophysical research institute of the country engaged in carrying out multidisciplinary R&D programmes in Earth System Sciences covering basic, applied and computational aspects of geophysics for natural resources and environmental studies. Ladakh region is geologically and geophysically less explored area and CSIR-NGRI has already initiated a mega R&D program for resources assessment, geophysical mapping, earthquake hazard, geothermal and groundwater studies. Several CSIR-NGRI teams are already working in different regions of Ladakh towards this purpose. To strengthen this activity CSIR-NGRI signed an MoU with University of Ladakh for academic and scientific collaboration in the area of mutual interest. The main objective of the MoU is to coordinate and collaborate in Research and training in focused area of geophysics and geology and to jointly take up research programs and to have exchange visits of faculty and students of University of Ladakh. Through CSIR, the National Geophysical Research Institute is committeed to work for the S&T led development of Ladakh region. The ongoing R&D projects on Geophysical Mapping, Earthquake Hazard, Geothermal Energy, Groundwater etc will have a direct impact on the socioeconomic development and of this region
