Date:17/08/2023 Three-day Yusuf Hamied Chemistry Camp Venue: University of Ladakh, Leh Campus The three-day Yusuf Hamied Chemistry Camp began today, 17th August 2023, University of Ladakh, Leh Campus. The inaugural session commenced with Honourable Vice-Chancellor Professor S K Mehta, University of Ladakh, as the Chief Guest. Other Guests included Ms. Bhakti Dhamdhere, Program Coordinator of Yusuf Hamied Chemistry Camp, Ms Melissa Mendonza, Program Executive, Yousif Hamied Chemistry Camp Prof. Deskyong Namgyal, Controller of Examination, University of Ladakh, Prof. Tashi Ldawa, Dean of Academic Affairs, and the University of Ladakh. Prof S. K Mehta and other distinguished guests thanked the Royal Society of Chemistry for funding this residential camp and Thiksay Monastery for providing the boarding and lodging arrangement. The Chemistry camp witnessed the participation of 67 students and teachers from different government schools of Ladakh, making it a significant milestone in invoking interest in the Chemistry discipline and further teaching and educating the students about various aspects of Science, particularly Chemistry subjects in Ladakh. Prof. Mehta expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Royal Society of Chemistry for their valuable support in ensuring the success of the camp, Thiksay Monastery for the accommodation and teaching and non-teaching staff of the University of Ladakh for their tremendous effort in making this camp a fruitful one. Chief Education Officer, UT Ladakh, Shri Sonam Dorjey Namgyal graced the first lecture series and delivered a brief talk and stressed that the education sector in Ladakh, in general, is lagging in the discipline of science. Therefore, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Royal Society of Chemistry and Yusuf Hamied for providing this opportunity for the students of Ladakh who came from the far-flung areas of Ladakh to take part in the three-day Chemistry Residential camp.
