On the 14th of October 2023, the Dept. of Geology, School of Earth science, Leh Campus, University of Ladakh, organized Short Symposia Focusing on Glaciology, Open Air Rock Museum including Felicitation of IESO, Academic and Sports Award Winners. The event was graced by the Presence of Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.K. Mehta, Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary Ministry of Earth Sciences, Guest of Honour, Ms. Padma Angmo, IIS, Principal Secretary, UT Administration, Prof. Talat Ahmad, Chairman, Governing Board of Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun, Dr Jagvir Singh, Adviser of MoES (Ministry of Earth Sciences), GoI, Dr. O.P Mishra, Head of National Center For Seismology, MOES, GoI, Dr. Om Prakash Chaurasia, Director of DIHAR and Ms. Kaneez Fatima, Reactor of Kargil campus. The event started with the Lightning of the lamp by HVC Prof. S.K. Mehta and other dignitaries. The HVC Prof S. K. Mehta facilitate the chief guest Dr. M. Ravichandran and Guest of honor Ms. Padma Angmo, and other dignitaries with the traditional khataks & Momentos. Prof. S.K. Mehta gave welcome address. He talked about the future plans of UoL and welcomes all the guests. Dr. O. P. Mishra, Head of National Center For Seismology, MOES, GoI, talked Seismology research, Climate Change, Sustainable Development and environment Centric Process to detect earthquake. He focused on multidisciplinary research and knowledge sharing. Dr Jagvir Singh, Adviser of MoES (Ministry of Earth Sciences), GoI, talked about the research funding and ongoing research programmes. Dr. Subrat Sharma, Dean Research, University of Ladakh and talked about Ladakh Contemporary Research issues in the field of Earth System. Prof. Talat Ahmad, Chairman, Governing Board of Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun, talked about Himalaya & Tibet: Climate & Feedback's. After that, felicitation of IESO, academic, & sports awards winners of Ladakh UT and University of Ladakh students. Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary Ministry of Earth Sciences, spoke about 3s i.e. Science, Service and Society. He deeply focused on the understanding of weather and weather management and its importance for the society. He quoted if science is better than the services delivered to the society will be better.
