PRESS REPORT Celebration of Constitution Day Under the aegis of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Department of the Political Science- Kargil Campus University of Ladakh has celebrated Constitution Day with great fervour and gaiety at Tringa lawn in front of Administrative block. The event owed its success to the unwavering support and guidance of the venerable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S. K. Mehta, University of Ladakh and worthy rector Madam Kaneez Fatima, Kargil Campus University of Ladakh. Their patronage ensured the seamless execution of the program, setting the stage for a memorable and insightful gathering. A distinguished assembly of faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff congregated to celebrate the Constitution Day. This gathering was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan Senior Assistant Professor. Zibun Nissa, a first-semester political science student, gave a lecture on this occasion. In her address, she emphasised the visionary members of the Indian Constituent Assembly-President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Chairman of the Drafting Committee Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, and constitutional legal advisor B.N. Rau—who ratified or upheld affirmative action policies aimed at advancing the interests of the underprivileged in society. She also sheds light on the contributions made by veteran political leaders like Agha Ibrahim Shah, Kushok Bakula, Munshi Habibullah, and Sonam Wangyal, as well as a number of socioreligious association in the districts of Leh and Kargil, who have set the lofty goal of transforming Ladakh into a peaceful and sustainable region. She also mentioned in her address that procedural democracy in Kargil and Leh functions quite well. She does, however, also point out that Ladakh has not yet attained a substantive form of democracy. In her view, the current generation could reinforce constitutional values such as the principles of individual liberty, equality, brotherhood and sisterhood at grass root level. In his address, Dr. Muzammil Ahad Dar emphasised the moral and legal aspects of the Indian Constitution. Throughout his speech, he made reference to the vital role that constituent assembly members play in establishing a nation’s basic laws and values. Additionally, he emphasised that the accommodating policy is a crucial tactic used by members of the constituent assembly to celebrate diversity while maintaining unity. Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan, Senior Assistant Professor has graciously recited the preamble and presided over the oath ceremony. This symbolic act aims to foster a sense of responsibility and citizenship among individuals, reinforcing the importance of active participation in the democratic process The event was seamlessly organized by Dr. Gulam Murtaza and commenced with a warm welcome speech by Dr. Mehdi Ali.
