Inter-Departmental Basketball Tournament for boys and girls began today at the Leh Campus. This marks the first time a basketball tournament is being held at the university, made possible by the recent development of a state-of-the-art basketball court on campus. The new court, equipped with standard hydraulic basketball stands, fibre glass backboards adds a modern sporting facility to the university's infrastructure. A total of seven teams from various departments are participating in the event. The tournament follows a round-robin league format, with five matches being played on the opening day. The action-packed games were closely watched by both staff and students, creating an electrifying atmosphere on campus. This sporting event is being conducted under the visionary leadership of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. S. K. Mehta, who aims to transform the University of Ladakh into a vibrant hub of scholastic and co-scholastic activities. His initiative seeks to provide a holistic environment for students, encouraging participation in diverse fields beyond academics. Dr. Jigmat Dachen, Dean of Students' Welfare, is overseeing the tournament, ensuring smooth coordination and the success of this much-anticipated event. The tournament is set to continue over the next few days, with the campus abuzz with excitement and enthusiasm.
